Clean It. Inspect It. Lubricate It. Every Shift.
Most breakdowns give warning signs first: a loose bolt, a small leak, a dry bearing. A good CIL routine puts operators in position to catch them early.
What is a CIL checklist?
A CIL (Cleaning, Inspection, and Lubrication) checklist is the routine operators follow to keep equipment in its basic condition. Each task has a clear standard, method, and frequency, so anyone on the shift can do it the same way. CIL is the foundation of Autonomous Maintenance and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
What's included
- A task list with component, task type, standard, method, lubricant, frequency, and target minutes
- A weekly grid to mark each task OK, Abnormality, or N/A, with completion calculated automatically
- A weekly summary showing completion, abnormalities found, and planned CIL minutes per day
- An Abnormality Log with tag numbers, owners, due dates, and overdue flags
- Ten example tasks to show what clear, checkable standards look like
How to use it
Build a task list for one machine, then run the weekly sheet at the line. Operators mark each task as they go and log anything abnormal with a tag. Review completion and open abnormalities at your daily huddle, and fix any routine that's too long or unclear.

Prevent Breakdowns Before They Start.
Proactive maintenance approaches, including Autonomous Maintenance, can cut machine downtime by 30% to 50% (McKinsey & Company).
Autonomous Maintenance gives operators ownership of basic equipment care. Cleaning becomes inspection, small problems get fixed while they're small, and maintenance techs spend more time on the work only they can do.
CIL is where it starts: a short, repeatable routine that keeps equipment in good condition and builds the habits that drive OEE.
